As I look around there is seemingly no path through, that the ocean will not swallow me up. I search for higher ground to stand. A new perspective of what lies around me stimulates my senses. I stand on a protective barrier built to fortify Fort Caswell! Breached how many times by the raging sea? High tide swallows the beach and makes it impassable without getting my feet wet. Do I risk it, or turn back? I’ll sit listening and watching the waves, waiting to see what they’ll reveal.
Wait, waiting, waiting still…the sun warms my face as I close my eyes and soak it in…A rude awakening from my musings as a rouge wave slithers up and grabs my feet. I look to the left, I look to the right, both ways are cut off now by the high tide of life. Do I move forward or go back? The decision is all mine. There is no right or wrong. Besides, my feet are already wet. There’s nothing left to lose, except maybe the clothes off my back, and then I’ll just go skinny dipping!
There’s no escape now! My feet are freezing as the waves crash and I’m caught between the wall of sand and the ocean. Exhilarating! Just as I see no way out, a trail opens up and I’m saved from further torment.
What an adventure with cold, wet feet and a story to unfold. Alive and fully awake for a moment in time. I believe I will soak in this moment a little longer…lingering….pondering…
I turn to walk away, but the sea keeps calling me back…
